How many calories are in 25g of protein?
Using the standard value of 4 calories per gram of protein, 25 grams of protein alone supplies 100 calories. Foods that provide 25g of protein also contain varying amounts of carbohydrate and fat, so there is no single calorie answer for chicken, yogurt, protein bars, shakes, or powders. Use the food's own label values in the calculator above.
How the calculation works
The calculator normalizes every product to the same protein amount. Calories per 25g protein equals calories per serving divided by protein grams per serving, multiplied by 25. For example, a serving with 180 calories and 15g protein requires 300 calories to provide 25g protein. A lower result means fewer calories are needed for the same protein target.
The same calculation works for another target: replace 25 with the grams of protein you want. The inverse view is protein per 100 calories: divide protein grams by calories and multiply by 100. These are two views of the same efficiency question, so they belong on this page rather than on separate formula pages.
For the reasoning, rounding limits, and worked comparisons behind the number, read the calories-per-25g-protein formula guide. To understand the inverse result shown by this calculator, see protein per 100 calories explained.
Why compare at 25g of protein?
Serving sizes are not consistent across protein bars, snacks and ready-to-drink products. A common protein target makes the comparison easier to understand. It does not say which product is universally healthier; it answers one specific question about protein efficiency.
